FAQ

Good to know.

Quick answers about HEIC conversion.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is an image format commonly used by iPhones because it can store photos efficiently. Some websites, apps, and devices still expect JPG or PNG, so converting can make a photo easier to use.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG or PNG for free?

Yes. HeyC! is free to use, with a batch limit of 50 files and a 300 MB combined input limit per batch. No account is required.

Are my photos uploaded?

The image conversion runs locally in your browser through a background worker. Your selected photo contents are not sent to a HeyC! conversion server. The page still needs to load its application code and the HEIC conversion library from a content delivery network.

Which format should I choose: JPG or PNG?

JPG is usually a practical choice for photographs and sharing. PNG uses lossless image encoding, which can produce larger files. Changing the output format does not restore image information already lost in the source.

Will the original photo metadata be preserved?

Do not rely on the converted image to retain every item of HEIC metadata, such as location, camera details, or other embedded fields. Keep the original file when that information matters.

Why can a large batch take a while?

HEIC decoding and image conversion use your device's memory and processor. HeyC! limits each batch to 50 files and 300 MB of input, and uses a small worker pool to keep the page responsive rather than running every conversion at once.
